06.11.14: Roach Motel

A couple years ago a friend of mine dubbed me "Roach Queen." Everywhere I went, the buggers seemed to follow me. I've always found them absolutely fascinating. They are among the oldest species in the world and survived the the dinosaur extinction 65 million years ago. When I see them crawling through cracks of the sidewalk I stop and stare; my affinity for them must have developed from my love of the city. They act almost as an urban icon in my eyes.

Last weekend I explored an abandoned hotel in Atlanta. There were no signs of business past the mid 80s. What was left of the decor was very vintage. I spent quite some time inspecting old electronics and paper records. I made sure to visit every room. Unfortunately, I found no roaches.
